Backed in Scottsdale

100% Money-Back Guarantee

We solve it or you don’t pay.

Why a pest control plan does not end a rat problem

Most rodent jobs in Scottsdale get sold as a recurring service. Someone sets bait, comes back monthly, and collects for as long as you keep paying. The rodents keep coming because nobody ever closed the opening they walk through. Traps empty. Holes do not close themselves.

We do the opposite, and we put our name on it. Every job is covered by our 100% Money-Back Guarantee: we solve it, or you don’t pay. No renewal, no monthly fee, and nothing to keep paying for while the problem carries on.

We do it the other way around. We find every entry point first. Then we seal the building in steel and mortar so the route is gone, and trap what is already inside with traps and a vacuum system rather than poison. That is a repair to your house, and it is why it does not need renewing.

It also means we will sometimes tell you the job is smaller than you feared. A phone call that ends in "that sounds like one open vent, not an infestation" is a good outcome for both of us.

What mice and rats actually use to get in

  • Open ends under the first row of concrete or clay roof tile
  • Roof and gable vents with torn or missing screens
  • Air conditioning line sets, plumbing and cable through the stucco
  • Gaps where a patio cover or parapet meets the house
  • Weep screed gaps at the base of the stucco walls
  • Garage door seals that no longer meet the slab
  • Dryer and bath vents whose flaps have stopped closing
  • Citrus, palms, oleander and block walls running rats to the roofline

The citrus tree isn’t the problem. An opening into your home is. We identify the actual entry points and seal them FIRST using our lifetime-warranted rodent-proofing products.

How it goes

Why Scottsdale homeowners call us

Free Phone Estimate

Tell us what you’re hearing, seeing or smelling and where it’s happening. We’ll explain our process, discuss pricing and determine the right next step.

Find the Entry Point

This is the most important step. We determine exactly how rats or mice are entering — from attic and roof openings to crawl spaces, structural penetrations and plumbing or sewer systems.

Seal the Entry Points

Once we know how they’re getting in, we permanently seal the identified openings using professional rodent-proof materials. Stop the entry first — then eliminate what’s trapped inside.

Trap & Monitor

We strategically trap and monitor the rodents remaining inside using traps, cameras and, when appropriate, our Rat Vac system. No rodent poison inside your home.

Clean & Sanitize

Droppings, nesting material and contaminated insulation come out, and the space is disinfected rather than just cleared. Insulation is replaced where the contamination went through it.

Rodent Control in Scottsdale, AZ

Scottsdale is two different rodent jobs. In the older neighborhoods to the south, with mature citrus, palms and irrigated yards, it is roof rats coming in at the roofline. Up north against the desert and the preserve, it is pack rats and mice moving in from open ground right behind the wall.

Either way the question is the same: not how many are inside, but how they are getting in. On a tile-roofed stucco house that is usually the roof tile edges, a vent, the garage, or a line set through the wall.

Golf courses and resort grounds run through a lot of the city, and their water, turf and planting carry rodents along them from one neighborhood to the next. A house on a fairway or beside a green belt sees more of it than one three streets back.

We find the entry points first, seal them in steel and mortar, then trap and monitor what is left inside without poison. See rodent control services for how the whole job fits together.

Pack Rats Under the Hood in Scottsdale

On the desert edge the call is very often about a car rather than a house. Pack rats build their nests in sheltered, undisturbed spaces, and an engine bay in a garage or under a carport is one of the best they can find - particularly a second car or a vehicle that sits while its owner is away for the summer.

The damage is chewed wiring and a nest of sticks and debris on top of the engine, and simply pulling the nest out does nothing about the rat coming back to it.

Winter residents see the worst of it. A car left in the garage from April to October has had six months of nobody starting it, and the call usually comes the week its owner gets back to town and the dash lights up.

Vehicle rodent removal covers the four-step process: clean and deodorize, protect the wiring, add a deterrent barrier and, where appropriate, an under-hood ultrasonic device.

Rodent Proofing from the Shea Blvd Office

Rodent proofing starts with knowing exactly how rats or mice are getting inside. Once we identify the entry points, we seal them FIRST using our lifetime-warranted rodent-proofing products and professional exclusion materials designed to stop rodents from getting back in.

On a Scottsdale house that means the open ends under the first row of roof tile, roof and gable vents, the line sets and pipes through the stucco, the weep screed at the base of the walls, and the garage door seal.

For a seasonal home, the right time is before you leave for the summer, not after you get back. A house that is sealed in April is a house with nothing living in it in October.

We don’t rely on temporary fixes like foam, caulk or steel wool stuffed into a hole. Our exclusion repairs are performed using lifetime-warranted products, and our rodent-resolution service is backed by our 100% money-back guarantee.

Two brothers who chose this over television

Their father, David Schuelke Sr., started the business in 1982 and taught his twin sons the trade in high school, in his words so they would have something to fall back on. Jim and Dave have run it since 1992.

In between, a talent agent signed them at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. They shot a Jeep commercial for the 1994 Winter Olympics and appeared on EXTRA. Then they came back to the trade, specifically because of what they thought of its reputation: show up late, walk in with dirty boots, leave a mess.

That is the whole business model. Everything else, including the 626,000-subscriber channel, the training center they built for new hires, and filming the ugly jobs instead of hiding them, follows from it. Read the full story →

Our Scottsdale office

From Old Town to the McDowell Mountains

Scottsdale is 31 miles from its northern edge to its southern one, and the office on East Shea Boulevard sits near the middle of it. That length matters, because a house near Old Town and a house below the McDowell Mountains are two different rodent jobs.

The south end is the old town. Winfield Scott bought the land where Old Town now stands in 1888, and the farm town that grew up there was watered by the canals - the Arizona Canal still crosses south Scottsdale. The houses around it are older ranch homes on irrigated lots, with block walls, mature citrus and palms, and those are the roof rat’s roads to the roofline.

North of Shea the houses get newer and the desert gets closer. The city runs up against the McDowell Mountains to the east and the Tonto National Forest to the north, with the McDowell Sonoran Preserve on its northeastern fringe, and the homes backing onto that open ground have pack rats and mice a few yards from the back wall. On these houses the way in is a detail: the end of a tile row, a vent screen, a garage door that never sat flat, or the line set where the air conditioning comes through the stucco.

Then there are the houses nobody is in. Scottsdale fills with winter residents every year, and a good many of their homes sit closed from spring to autumn. A shut house with nobody there to hear anything and a car in the garage is exactly the quiet space a pack rat or a roof rat is looking for, and the first anyone knows of it is the nest in the engine bay in October.

FAQ

Rat and mouse control in Scottsdale: common questions

How much does rodent control cost in Scottsdale?

The cost depends on how the rodents are getting in, how extensive the activity is, and what repairs are needed to permanently stop the problem.

We start with a free phone estimate to learn what you’re hearing, seeing or smelling and to explain our process and expected pricing.

If the source of the problem is not obvious, the next step may be our Entry Point Diagnostic, where we determine exactly how rats or mice are getting into the home.

Once the entry points are identified, we can provide the scope and pricing for sealing, trapping and monitoring, and cleanup as needed.

No monthly bait program. Our goal is to find the source and solve the problem permanently.

My Scottsdale home sits empty all summer. What should I do?

Call before you leave rather than after you get back. A closed house with nobody in it for six months is where a pack rat or a roof rat settles in, and the car in the garage is often where it nests. Sealing the openings in spring means there is nothing to find in October.

Do you use poison?

No. We don’t use rodent poison inside your home. Poison can leave a rodent dying in an inaccessible wall or ceiling cavity, creating odor and potentially attracting flies — and it still doesn’t solve the most important problem: how the rodent got inside in the first place.

Our approach is different. We find the entry points and seal them first. Then we use specialized trapping systems and rodent-monitoring cameras in high-activity areas to quickly and efficiently eliminate what remains inside and verify activity has stopped.

Find it. Seal it. Trap & monitor it. Solve it for good.

How do you remove rodents from inside walls and ceilings?

We specialize in fast removal of rodents living inside walls and ceilings. After we locate their entry points and seal them, we strategically deploy our specialized trapping and monitoring systems.

One of those systems is our patented Rat Vac trapping device, which is designed to extract multiple rodents using a single bait setup — with capacity for up to 60 mice or 33 rats.

The rodents are captured in a self-contained system, helping keep the trapping process contained and away from children and pets. We also use rodent-monitoring cameras in high-activity areas to track activity and help confirm when the problem has been eliminated.

No poison in your walls. No guessing. Find the entry point. Seal it. Then get them out — fast.

Are roof rats a problem in Scottsdale?

In the older, irrigated parts of the city, yes. South Scottsdale’s mature citrus, palms and block walls give a roof rat food, cover and a road to the roofline. Further north, on the desert edge, pack rats and mice are the more common call.

Which parts of Scottsdale do you cover?

All of it, from the older neighborhoods around Old Town in the south up past the Airpark to the houses below the McDowell Mountains and the preserve. The Shea Blvd office covers Scottsdale, and the Phoenix office on East Washington Street covers Phoenix.

Do you handle pack rats in north Scottsdale?

Yes. Pack rats are most of the work on the desert edge. The job is the same as for any rat: find where it is getting into the house, the garage or the car, seal it, and take out what is there. A nest under the hood is the vehicle rodent removal work.

What does your 100% money-back guarantee mean?

It means we stand behind our work. If you hire us to solve your rodent problem, we confirm the source of the infestation, complete the recommended work, and if we don’t solve the problem, you get your money back.

That’s also why we use rodent-monitoring cameras in high-activity areas. We don’t just set traps and assume the problem is gone — we monitor rodent activity to help verify that the problem has been resolved.

Our goal is simple: find how they’re getting in, seal the entry points, eliminate what remains, and solve the problem for good — all backed by our 100% money-back guarantee.

Guarantee subject to the terms of your service agreement and completion of the recommended scope of work.

Do you handle the cleanup and contaminated insulation?

Yes. Once the rodent problem is resolved, we remove droppings, nesting materials and contaminated insulation where needed. We then clean, sanitize and deodorize affected areas using TwinZyme, our professional-strength enzyme treatment designed to break down rodent-related organic waste and odors.

Insulation can also be replaced where necessary.

We don’t just remove the rodents — we help remove what they left behind.

Do you offer a free inspection?

Over the phone, yes. The free inspection is a call rather than a visit: you tell us what you are hearing, where in the house and at what time of day, and we tell you what that points to and how we would deal with it. No charge, and nothing to book.

What we do not do is a free walk-around. Finding the entry points is the job itself rather than a sales visit, so we would rather be straight about which part costs nothing and which part is the work.

Do you do scorpions, ants or other pests?

No. We do rats and mice, and that is the whole list. No scorpions, no ants, no spiders, no bugs, and no quarterly pest treatment of any kind.

If another pest is your actual problem, we are not your call, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than book you in.

Where are you hearing it?

Attic / Ceiling / Walls

Scratching overhead or inside walls.

Crawl Space / Under Floors

Noises or activity beneath the home.

Sewer / Plumbing

Rats appearing with no obvious exterior entry.

Any of the three is worth a call. Tell us what you are hearing and where, and we will tell you what it usually means: get a free phone estimate, or call (602) 892-0661.
