Rodent Control in Dalton Gardens, ID

Dalton Gardens sits between Coeur d’Alene and Hayden on lots measured in acres rather than feet, and that much ground around a home changes the rodent work.

Around Dalton Gardens

Dalton Gardens is a small city in Kootenai County, 2,537 people at the 2020 census on about 2.3 square miles, bordering Coeur d’Alene. It began on December 4, 1907, when the Hayden-Coeur d’Alene Irrigation Company recorded a plat of small fruit-raising tracts watered from Hayden Lake. The orchards did well until a freeze that set in on October 31, 1935 killed every cherry tree and many of the apple and pear trees, and the city incorporated in 1960.

The water is still organized the old way: the Dalton Gardens Irrigation District shares an address on N 4th St with Dalton Gardens City Hall and Dalton Gardens Park. Dalton Elementary School is on N Mt Carrol St. The farming these days is mostly backyard gardens and horses, on lots that kept their size when the land around them filled in.

Acreage, barns and feed

The city was laid out in 1907 as small irrigated fruit tracts, and the lots never shrank to suburban size: plenty of homes here sit on an acre or more, with a barn, a shop or a paddock beside the house. Horses are common, and hay, grain and feed stored in an outbuilding keep mice fed all year, so a population builds through the summer and heads for the house when the nights drop. Backyard gardens and irrigated lawns put cover and water right up against the foundation. That is why exclusion here covers the outbuildings as well as the home: sealing one and ignoring the other only moves the problem across the yard.

Pest control services or a sealed building

Plenty of people out here call a local pest company first, and for insects that is the right call: pest control services, insect control and termite control are what a general pest company is built for. For mice, pest control usually means bait stations along the house and the barn and a pest inspection on a schedule. Bait thins out the animals already on the property and leaves the places they get in exactly as they were.

Our work is exclusion, not spraying. On a lot with a house, a barn and a shop we look at all three, because feed and hay in one building keep a population going that moves on to the next. We seal the places rodents use in steel and mortar, then trap and monitor inside until the activity stops. A professional pest visit that stays outside the house never closes a gap in the rim joist.

Why pest management keeps coming back

Pest management is a schedule: the same visit every month or every quarter, because nothing changed about how the pests get in. Rodent control done as a repair has an end point. Once the openings in the house and the outbuildings are closed, the places mice nest in winter, the hay, the feed room and the garden shed, stop feeding the house, and there is nothing left to re-bait.

If you pay a company for pest control or lawn care already, keep it for what it covers; mice and rats are a separate job, and the places they get in are what we fix. We are a family business, and the exclusion work carries a lifetime warranty, so the repair is something we stand behind rather than come back to sell again.

Our five steps, not a pest control route

The same five steps everywhere: a free home inspection, finding exactly how they are getting in, sealing those openings in steel and mortar, trapping and monitoring what is left inside, then cleaning and sanitizing. No poison and no recurring contract. The exclusion work is a one-time repair backed by our guarantee.

Our Coeur d’Alene office at 1217 E Maple Ave puts Dalton Gardens a short run away. We also work Coeur d’Alene and Hayden, and the wider Coeur d’Alene area.

FAQ

Common questions before you call

Do you charge extra to come out here?

No. Dalton Gardens is inside our normal Coeur d’Alene service area, and the inspection is free here like anywhere else.

Do you check the barn and the shop too?

Yes, when they are part of the problem. The inspection takes in the outbuildings and the places feed and hay are stored, and you hear which of them need work before any of it starts.

Is this a recurring contract?

No. The exclusion work is a one-time repair to your buildings, backed by the money-back guarantee, not a pest control plan billed every month.
