Two brothers who chose the trade over television
A talent agent signed them. They shot a Jeep commercial for the 1994 Winter Olympics and turned up on EXTRA. Then they went back to their father’s business, because they thought the industry deserved better than it was getting.
It started with a fallback plan
David Schuelke Sr. founded the business in 1982 and taught his
twin sons the trade while they were still in high school. His stated
reason was practical: he wanted to give them
something to fall back on if college or our future career choice
did not go as planned
.
The thing he taught them alongside it mattered more, and it is still the sentence the business runs on: provide a great customer experience every time and you’ll have customers for life.
The detour
A talent agent approached Jim and Dave at the Sherman Oaks Galleria. They signed, started auditioning as twins, landed a Jeep television commercial for the 1994 Winter Olympics, and were cast on shows including EXTRA.
They came back anyway. Their own explanation is that
the plumbing business is where we could do some great things
, and what they wanted to do was fix the reputation. Their
description of the industry as they found it was blunt:
show up late, walk in with dirty boots, and have a crack
.
So the mission became proving the opposite, that the trade
can be professional, clean and responsive
. Everything the
business does now follows from that one decision.
What it turned into
Jim and Dave have run the business since 1992. The hardest part, by their own account, was never the work, it was hiring people who would do it to the same standard. So they built an in-house training center for new technicians.
They also started filming the jobs. Not the tidy ones: the attics full of droppings, the contaminated insulation, the houses people are embarrassed about. That channel now has 626,000 subscribers, and it is the most useful thing on this site, you can watch the exact work you are being quoted for, done on somebody else’s house, before you call.
Random Acts of Twinfulness
The business gives back a percentage of its proceeds to the communities it works in, home projects for families facing medical or financial crises, plus local charities and nonprofits. They call it Random Acts of Twinfulness, which tells you something about the two of them.

Who actually shows up at my house?
A trained Twin Home technician. Jim and Dave do not personally run every job, there are more jobs than two people, but the training center they built is where every technician learns the method, and the standards on camera are the standards on site.
Why do you film the jobs?
Because the work is invisible otherwise. Nobody goes into their own attic. Filming it is the only honest way to show a homeowner what is actually above their ceiling and what was done about it, and it has turned into a channel with over 626,000 subscribers.
